Victorian Home Redesign, Marlow
A thoughtfully renovated Victorian semi, balancing period character with contemporary family living. By celebrating the home's original features whilst introducing colour, personality and practical design, the result is a home that feels both timeless and uniquely tailored to the family who lives there.
Challenge:
Transform a recently purchased Victorian semi into a family home that respected its heritage whilst supporting the realities of modern life. The challenge was to introduce better flow, greater functionality and a stronger sense of personality without losing the character that made the property so special.

Create a warm, welcoming family home that celebrates the property's Victorian charm whilst reflecting the family's own style, supporting everyday life and evolving with them for years to come.
Project
When Ronnie purchased her Victorian home, she could immediately see its potential. Beautiful period features gave the property character, but the interiors didn't yet reflect the young family about to make it their own.
Rather than creating a home that felt overly contemporary or overly traditional, the ambition was to strike a careful balance - respecting the building's heritage whilst introducing colour, personality and practical design solutions that supported modern family life.
As with every Golden Peacock Design project, the starting point wasn't choosing colours or furniture. It was understanding how Ronnie and her daughter wanted to live. From entertaining friends in the kitchen to creating spaces that felt calm, playful and uniquely theirs, every design decision was shaped around the family's lifestyle rather than following trends or replicating period interiors.
The result is a home that feels timeless yet personal, blending original architectural character with thoughtful contemporary design to create spaces that are both beautiful and genuinely enjoyable to live in.

A Kitchen Designed for Living
The kitchen needed to do far more than simply look beautiful - it needed to support the way Ronnie and her daughter lived every day. Opening up the space created better flow, whilst bespoke cabinetry and carefully considered storage ensured the room worked as hard as it looked.
A heritage green kitchen sits comfortably alongside the home's original character, while Crittall doors and a full-height window flood the room with natural light and strengthen the connection to the garden. The result is a warm, welcoming space where everyday family life and entertaining come together effortlessly.

A Room Full of Character
Small rooms often have the greatest opportunity to surprise. Rather than relying on bold statements, carefully layered details create warmth, individuality and a strong sense of identity.
A painted ceiling border, playful striped fabric and richly textured finishes work together to create a room that feels welcoming, relaxed and entirely personal - a favourite place to curl up with a book or simply enjoy a quieter moment away from the busier family spaces.

The bathroom was designed to feel like a place to slow down. Soft blush tones introduce warmth, whilst deeper green accents and brushed brass details create balance and sophistication without feeling overly formal.
Rather than following trends, every decision focused on creating a timeless room that supports everyday routines whilst offering a genuine sense of calm.

The hallway sets the tone for everything that follows. Inspired by the stained-glass front door, bespoke joinery combines practical storage with a confident use of colour, ensuring coats, shoes and everyday essentials all have their place.
The result is an entrance that feels organised, uplifting and unmistakably personal—a daily reminder that thoughtful design begins from the moment you walk through the front door.
Daughter's Room

Designed With, Not Just For
One of the most rewarding parts of this project was involving Ronnie's daughter throughout the design process. Rather than designing a room for her, we designed it with her—giving her the confidence to make decisions whilst ensuring the finished scheme would continue to grow alongside her.
Her favourite colour became the starting point, whilst playful scalloped detailing introduced personality without compromising longevity. The finished room feels calm, joyful and deeply personal — a space that reflects not just her style today, but her growing independence too.
